On World Cancer Day 2019, the streets of Eyenkorin came alive with awareness as social work students and OCDI staff led a rally to educate the community on cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of self-examination.

World Cancer Day Commemoration 2019
In commemoration of World Cancer Day 2019, students of social work from the University of Ilorin on practicum, alongside staff of Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), conducted an awareness walk on Friday, 8 February 2019, across Eyenkorin Community, Ilorin, Kwara State. The rally moved from Apata Ajele through the community to the market and back, engaging residents with vital information about cancer, its various types, symptoms, causes, and prevention. Community members were sensitized on the importance of early detection, particularly through breast self-examination using the clock method. The outreach reached a significant number of people, including market men and women who actively participated by asking questions and seeking clarity. Informational flyers were also distributed to reinforce learning and encourage continued awareness within the community. Through this initiative, OCDI continues to amplify the importance of awareness, early detection, and community education in the fight against cancer.
